Online Locators: Access Pass to the “Wellness Party”

Many of my favorite people in the fields of public health, medicine and community outreach are involved in actively providing opportunities for consumers (that’s all of us!) to (a) express what we want and, (b) gain access to what we need--relative to wellness.

While it's no substitute for expert advice or human interaction, the Internet also provides a kind of forum for our requests and it often serves up handy info. You can find some basic forms of wellness resources online. Websites of professional associations, educational organizations and government agencies can be starting points if you're in fact-finding mode.

Over the last couple of years I’ve sought out or stumbled upon the resources below. They're a mashup (aka hodgepodge) of my own personal and professional queries. For example, take a look at the first link below. Our walk encyclopedia, Wendy Bumgardner, answers the question, "Where and how can I find a walking buddy?" in her About.com Guide to Walking resource.

Whatever the nature of YOUR wellness quest, be persistent and remember this: the information you seek probably exists, the support you want is probably available, and the good health you deserve can definitely be helped in some way by walking.

Elizabeth
