The Goal

While looking for a definition of the wellness buzzword, “self-management”, I found a simple phrase that caused a warm ray of sunshine to glow in my recovering-couch-potato heart, “The Goal is to achieve the greatest possible physical capability and pleasure from life.”

Whatever chronic condition you’re managing--stress or obesity, heart or lung disease, cancer or diabetes, or others--if you’re WALKING regularly, you’re taking a positive step toward that Goal.

The American Cancer Society points to research that says walking helps prevent some types of cancer.

A page on Prevention magazine's site presents resources on walking for relief from stress.

The American Diabetes Association highlights research that affirms walking is an important diabetes self-management tool.

Self-management, the art of handling our conditions day-to-day, can be empowering. Proactive and positive management of factors like exercise and emotions or relaxation and nutrition enable us to create greater physical capability and satisfaction with life. And, here’s where I get to enjoy sounding like a broken record: regular WALKING helps with all of the above!

Walking For Wellness,
