WalkNews :: Audubon Offers Schools 'Great Bird Count' Resource


From Julie S. and the Sacramento Chapter of the National Audubon Society - "The Great Backyard Bird Count is February 16-19 (President's Day Weekend).

Locally, in Northern California, the Society has a set of 15 kid-friendly binoculars for loan to after-school programs AND a PowerPoint presentation with a side lesson on how to use binoculars. The K-8 component of the Sac Audubon Education Committee is focused on getting kids outside and you can connect with them by emailing jpseren [at] pacbell [dot] net.

::: Plan to count birds for at least 15 minutes during February 16–19, 2007
::: For each type of bird you see, count the most you see at any one time
::: Enter your results on the Great Backyard Bird Count web site

Reasons to Participate In the Bird Count

::: It's Free! You don't have to be a member of Audubon to take part. You can be part of setting a new record in 2007 for the most national Bird Count participants
::: You can put your hometown in the national spotlight if it makes the Bird Count Top 10 List for "Localities Reporting the Most Birds"
::: You can help everyone understand more about birds and support bird conservation
