NorCal Update: Neighborhood WALK

Neighborhood walking programs are good for EVERY 'hood! Obviously, Sacramento city leaders knew this when they wisely chose to support the Neighborhood WALK initiative (part of the 50+ Wellness Program) even after its federal grant funds dried up several years ago. Today, coordinated by experienced walk group organizer Jackie Iris, Neighborhood WALK sponsors more than a dozen very diverse groups and is available to show any volunteer how to start and lead their own local walking group. The Tahoe Park walking group is pictured here.

Neighborhood WALKS are held weekly during most weeks of the year and are open to all ages. Following essential groundwork by the walking advocacy organization Walk Sacramento, Neighborhood WALK now seeks Oak Park community residents to brainstorm, lead and actively participate in a walking-for-fun-and-wellness group in that area.
