Slip! Slop! Slap!

For your file labeled, WALK SAFELY... The American Cancer Society (ACS) has developed the Slip! Slop! Slap! slogan to help walkers and others more easily remember sun safety as we enjoy the outdoors. Because sun exposure accumulates over a lifetime, protection is a key to prevention of skin cancer. The Society says after the age of six months, we should all be using sunscreen. Contrary to popular belief, every skin color needs sun protection. Also, despite what you may hear, sunlamps and tanning booths can harm skin as much as the sun. Still waiting to learn what the slogan means? Okay, here’s your new mantra: before going out into the sun, wrap on sunglasses to protect your eyes, plan to stay out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. then, SLIP on a shirt, SLOP on sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) and SLAP on a hat! Find an informative Sun Safety Quiz and more details at the ACS prevention and early detection site.
