Schwag-Caching

Back in March we started a Walktopia series (yet another) called "Gift Horse Update". Bet you thought we'd forgotten about it, huh? No way...the equine wonder reappeared on our doorstep this morning with your update #2.

This Friday, Sweet Home Chicago will join the list* of cities where travel shoe manufacturer Palladium has launched a retail marketing spin on geocaching they call palcaching. After completing a required registration form at the palcaching site you can get GPS coordinates for palcaches that contain a code needed for your chance to win cash or shoe prizes.

According to the company, hides are in ammo boxes and you can search for palcaching clues as you travel city streets and parks. Palcaches can also be found at some retailers. *Palcaching U.S. hot spots: New York City, Atlanta, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago

Walktopia's a fan of the mashup so you can imagine we've already got a page in to Palladium for a photo/video and to find out more about this twist, like: how'd clever Palladium come up with the idea? What's the geocaching community's take on the emerging palcaching community? And, when's the offline party?

Okay, more seriously, when are other cities and countries getting into the game? Can consumers get Palladium schwag (free or extra goods) without palcaching? And, last but not least, has anyone found a palcache...who's won cash or shoes? Be sure to feed the gift horse a quick comment on your way to claim your free stuff ;-).
