Walk Snack Series No. 2: Brain Grain

Here's a second tip from "Healthy Ideas for Pre-Workout Snacks", an essay by Holistic Nutritionist Pamela Spencer and Whole Foods Chef Emily Barth Webber. As you read, please share your thoughts. Will you try this? How did you like it? What's YOUR fave walking snack? Go ahead and click COMMENTS.

Brain Grain: For about an hours-worth of moderate physical activity, including walking for weight management, eat 100 calories about 30 minutes before you exercise. Don’t consume too many calories before exercising...remember, the point is to burn calories, not to have an excuse to eat more snacks! Today's pre-walk snack idea focuses on grains. Try 1/3 cup whole grain such as quinoa (pronounced KEEN-WA), brown rice, wild rice or rye or mixture, steamed, boiled or pressure cooked; topped with 1/3 cup almond milk and a little cinnamon and/or nutmeg –and- with a little agave nectar or stevia (if you want to sweeten the grains).
