Fun, fitness and friendship is the tagline of the 350-club American Volkssport Assocation. They organize more than 3,000 walking events a year in all 50 states. To learn more, “pencil in” the group’s 2007 national convention to be held in northern California, June 27 to July 1, 2007.
Convention Chairman Don Ratliff says, “We’re expecting 750 to 1,000 (or more) walkers to attend convention during that week including representatives from Japan, Europe and other places around the world.”
Convention happenings include meetings and memorabilia sales for AVA members, social events like a barbeque at the CalExposition Center and, of course, lots of walks. “Like all AVA walks, anybody will be welcome. We’ll be going by carpool and also have chartered buses available to our walk event destinations like Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Folsom.”
Now might be a good time to check out your local AVA club (you can use the finder at http://www.ava.org/avaclub/avaclub.htm) and consider joining to start getting the benefits of local membership.
