An Apple A Day, But Not Before Walking

Walking for health and weight management enthusiasts, listen up! While it’s always difficult to make broad recommendations because each of us is different, those wholesome fruits and veggies may not always be the best pre-walk snack. According to popular Holistic Nutritionist Pam Spencer and Salud! Supervisor Emily Barth Webber,"We don’t say it’s not appropriate to have fruit (or veggies) before exercise but that it depends on how much fruit (or veggie), what kind and your state of health. For some people, fruits may contain too much sugar for a pre-workout snack and veggies may contain too much fiber for a pre-workout snack. Your body will work hard to digest these foods rather than burning fat and building muscle."

The two suggest the best pre-walk eats in a "healthy snacks" essay they've co-authored. If they grant permission to share more of their ideas, I'll post further notes from the essay. In the meantime, Pam's regular "Raw, Healthy, Fit and Fabulous" class runs twice a month at the local Whole Foods ($25).
