Karen Stoyanowski is the fastest active racewalker in the Sacramento area. Pictured here at the 10K Racewalk at Seaside last October, she's an elite athlete in the sport. Karen is a winner of the U.S. National Master Award, many National Masters Championships and has participated in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Google Karen and her times pop up all over the Internet. She's pictured and talked about in books on the sport, too.
Lucky for Sacramentans, Karen is local and, among other accomplishments and contributions to the walking community, Karen founded the Sierra Racewalker Club in the 1980's. In addition to continuing to enter marathons, teach clinics and help prepare others for competition, for the past 11 years Karen teaches an introductory racewalking class at the Learning Exchange.
Here's what I enjoyed most when I recently took her class in January of this year:
- Gained a new network of racewalking buddies
- Learned about a new walking club I can join
- Individual walk critique and coaching by Karen
- Individual and group gait analysis by Karen
- Mobility exercise instruction and hands-on exercise sessions
- Strategic tips for stepping up my walking game this season
If you'd enjoy meeting other walkers interested in fast walking and want to increase your own walking speed, find techniques for efficient walking and learn what the sport of racewalking is all about, then this is the class for you. Racewalking is a two-part class held from 9A to 11A on Saturday, March 11 and Saturday, March 18 ($59) with more info and registration details here: http://snipurl.com/karenracewalkclass.
